Happy 2019!

Happy New Year!

2019 is here and so am I! It’s hard to believe that 1999 was 20 years ago and also the year I graduated high school! Yea? but we can have that conversation another time. My real reason for this post is to give an update on my life after being laid off last year. If you don’t know the story please read it here.

For the 1st half of 2018 I was at home working on my blog and doing me. It was a good time, but after 6 months I had to go back to work because life is life and it’s necessary to have a multiple income household.

I went back to work in July, but unfortunately the job was not a good fit. It was a call center where you are treated like a child. I have outgrown being told when I can go to the restroom and eat. The job did not sit right with my spirit, and I really felt that way.

By the beginning of November I could no longer tolerate the stress and I was ready to walk away and deal with consequences that followed. Thankfully my friend who also worked there suggested I take a leave of absence. I didn’t even know this was an option (since I’d only worked there 4 months) until I called HR and told them my situation. I was able to take a mental leave of absence for 2 months.

I knew I had to figure out a way to keep from going back to that place. As soon as my leave started, I was looking for jobs online. I submitted applications to a few places in my industry (financial services). I also decided to check the website of my previous employer (where I was laid off) to see what opportunities were available. I submitted an application and got a call back a few weeks later. I interviewed and got the job!

Today is Sunday and tomorrow is my first day. Some may wonder why I would want to go back to a company who laid me off. I have nothing against them and I understand when they make organizational changes, jobs go with it. Thankfully the company is so big there are always other opportunities available.

My ultimate goal is to own my own business, but I have to work to make that happen. So if I have to work I prefer to be able to tolerate the work and be in an environment where I am valued as an employee.

Life comes with so many twists and turns, when I got laid off last year my vision was to take off with my blog and never need to go back to the corporate world. Now I’m going back to where I started (kinda) but I feel good about it. All this just goes to show, we have no idea what’s in store we just have to live life one day at a time, pray and have faith that things will work out for the best!
