I got laid off February 5, 2018. I know it sounds sad, but my situation is a bit different than you may think…

Here’s The Story

I’ve worked for the same financial services company for the last 12 years. I started with this company in 2006, I was 25 and my oldest son was only 2 years old! So you can say I basically grew up there, which is true because so much happened in 12 years. It’s kinda hard to believe my time there is done (but I’ll get to that part in minute). Although this was not my first job, working at this company gave me a true example of working in corporate America. I performed well at my job, I was promoted several times, and I enjoyed the people I worked with. I can truly say the first 5 years were the best. I learned a lot and I am very thankful to have been a part of a company that met my expectations of a great place to work.

The Turning Point

On November 7, 2017, a decision was made to close operations in my department. So as of midnight, I will no longer be employed. This blog was created because I decided to take a different approach to being laid off. This being my 2^nd time being laid off by the same company, I believe I owe it myself to explore my untapped potential. The first time I was laid off was in 2014. Back then I was just ready to take a break from working because I was tired and felt lost on my career path. I didn’t have a plan I only wanted to be able to spend more time at home and enjoy life, so I used some of my severance money and took my family on a 7-day cruise to the Bahamas. We had a great time, but this probably wasn’t the best thing to do financially.

This Time

I’m doing things differently which is where this blog comes in to play. During all these years, I have devoted my time to a corporation that had the ability to release me whenever they felt the need to change their “business model” just so I could pick up the pieces and find another “job.” If I use my newly gifted “free time” to put in the same amount of effort I gave them, I know I can create something amazing for me and my family.

Follow me as I embark on a new way of life.  This is my transformation from Employee to Boss! The ride is going to be scary and a bit uncomfortable because all I’ve ever known is to work for a company and collect a paycheck. But, I believe you need to be in an uncomfortable position in order to move to the next level. I’m inviting you to join me on the ride!
